An Tobar out to underline his growing reputation at Naas
Robcour-owned hurdler has already repaid trainer Henry de Bromhead’s patience and can go well again in a grade 1 contest on Sunday
An Tobar’s reputation had gone before him when he made his racecourse debut in a maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse in early November. The Gentlewave gelding hadn’t been seen in public since he won a point-to-point for Denis Murphy at Ballyvodock in January 2022, and yet, despite his lengthy absence, the confidence behind him in the market on that day at Fairyhouse was unwavering. Sent off the odds-on favourite, he duly won like an odds-on shot should win, easily, by four-and-a-half lengths.
He needed time, so he was given time. Off the track for more than 600 days, the patience exercised by the owners, Robcour, and by his trainer, Henry de Bromhead, were rewarded. An Tobar stepped up in grade next time to contest the grade
