The best new perfumes for winter
A selection of delicious, just released fragrances, perfect for long glamorous evenings
Winter comes with its own fragrances — wood fires, pine trees, mince pies. These and more have inspired the world’s most esteemed perfumers to create decadent new scents which will complement all your seasonal activities.
Guerlain, Tobacco Honey Eau de Parfum
100ml, £290
From the brand’s special L’Art & La Matière collection — a sort of couture line from the Guerlain perfumers — this is as sumptuous as the name suggests. Featuring amber, tobacco, vanilla and tonka bean with high-impact flashes of clove and aniseed, this is unapologetically punchy.

Victoria Beckham Beauty, Suite 302 Eau de Parfum
50ml, £170
For me, this is the sexiest of Victoria Beckham’s much-discussed fragrance collection. It’s a musky, smoky, leathery affair made with rose and red peppercorns. Created by the French perfumer Jérôme Épinette, it has something grand and decadent about it. Great for men and for women.

LBTY, Tudor Eau de Parfum
100ml, £225

This new brand from Liberty — inspired by its own vast archive of prints and created with some of the biggest names in modern perfumery — has five very special scents. Tudor (made by Pierre Negrin, famous for Black Orchid and White Patchouli at Tom Ford) is the one I can’t get enough of this season. If I say it’s spicy, woody and bohemian, it might sound a bit heavy. But there are bursts of freshness among the enigmatic, darker notes.

Byredo x Susanne Kaufmann, Bregenzerwald Fragrance Oil Roll-on
10ml, £90
I didn’t know that I wanted to smell like an Austrian mountain break until I smelt this — but then a collaboration from two of the chicest beauty brands could not go wrong. Renowned natural skincare expert Susanne Kaufmann has, with the fragrance brand, created something both wholesome and cool. With juniper berries, green jasmine and fig, it’s uplifting without smelling hippyish. It’s a bonus that it fits into a small handbag.

Bibbi, The Other Room Eau de Parfum
100ml, £225
This new brand has just launched with a collection of six scents — all inspired by the founder’s subconscious state. This one is meant to “evoke the intrigue and exclusivity of a masked ball, where a mysterious, magnetic presence named Coq Rouge fills the room”. This scenario did not specifically spring to mind for me but still, I do find this fragrance thrilling. It’s a beautifully balanced woody rose with elegant vetiver and non-hippy patchouli. One for fans of Frédéric Malle’s Portrait of a Lady.

Thameen London, Bravi Cologne Elixir
100ml, £250
This is a “cologne elixir” with the fresh citrus notes and structure of a cologne but the staying power and complexity of a fine fragrance. Classic notes of bergamot and bitter orange give way to warmer tuberose, honey and tobacco. This British brand always presents quite fabulous packaging — the fragrance comes in a hinged box that can be repurposed for jewellery.

Celine Haute Parfumerie, Céleste Eau de Cologne
250ml, £240

A sophisticated cologne to add to Celine’s collection of marvellous fragrances. Céleste has a clean and comforting presence with sweet neroli, petitgrain and lemon, with a soft musky underpinning of ambrette. The powdery through-line common to all Celine scents is present in the form of an orris note. Fresh and warm, this is subtle elegance itself.
