The crisis at US aerospace giant Boeing has deepened after United Airlines, the largest operator of the type of aircraft involved in a dramatic fuselage breach three days ago, said it had found loose bolts on “multiple” planes.

United, which has 79 of the 737 Max-9 aircraft, grounded the aircraft for inspection after a section of fuselage — a plug installed in an unused emergency exit — blew out on an Alaska Airlines flight on Friday, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the aircraft. The plane lost cabin pressure and made an emergency landing, with no passengers or crew harmed.
