Builder Stuart Milne collapses with loss of 200 jobs

The building business created by one of Scotland’s best known entrepreneurs has gone into administration with the loss of more than 200 jobs.

The insolvency of the Stewart Milne Group also causes uncertainty for consumers who may soon be trying to move into homes which are not yet completed.

Stewart Milne, who trained as an electrician, said he was “devastated” by the news. He founded the group in 1975, providing renovations and construction support services before diversifying into housebuilding in the 1980s.

The company expanded beyond its Aberdeen heartlands, eventually building houses across Scotland and in the northwest of England.
