Anthony Joshua will fight Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia
Anthony Joshua will face the former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia, with Friday March 8 mooted as a likely date for the ten-round fight.
Joshua, 34, who stopped Otto Wallin after five rounds in Riyadh last month, had initially been expected to face Deontay Wilder this spring, but those lucrative plans were wrecked by the American’s lacklustre defeat against Joseph Parker on the same night.
Ngannou, 37, had never previously fought as a professional boxer before he faced Tyson Fury in October, with most observers dismissing the crossover bout as a glorified exhibition. However, the Cameroonian then nearly inflicted an almighty upset when he knocked the WBC champion down in the third round and ultimately suffered a narrow defeat on points.
