With boxing gloves slung over his shoulder and a punch bag behind him, President Macron headed for the gym to urge the French to warm up for this summer’s Paris Olympics with daily workouts.

“It’s good for the health, it’s good for lots of things,” he said in a video posted on Twitter/X, advising his fellow citizens to undertake at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day.

The 46-year-old head of state, who boxes regularly in the gym, including with his presidential bodyguards, expressed hope that the legacy of the Olympics would be a fitter nation. He said that if the French followed his advice “it’s a way of having games that stay in our daily habits”.
