The Boris Bolt: Johnson put in his place

In 20 years as host of LBC’s breakfast radio show, Nick Ferrari has learnt how to deal with even the most slippery of interviewees.

When a reporter from the Radio Times went to speak to the presenter, they noticed the guest chair in his studio sat on plates that were welded to the floor. “That’s the Boris Bolt,” he said, explaining that this came about when the future prime minister was doing a regular “Ask Boris” slot on the station as mayor of London.

Johnson had the habit of wheeling his chair off camera during tricky questions so Ferrari decided to put him in his place. This device was familiar to one of his other guests, if not the reason. When Dame Cressida Dick, then
