Israel is holding talks with African countries about accepting immigrants from Gaza, as international outrage grows over its proposals to resettle Palestinians abroad.

According to Zman Yisrael, the Hebrew-language sister paper of The Times of Israel, Israeli officials said “Congo” was willing to take migrants. It did not specify whether it was the Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire, one of the poorest countries in the world, or the neighbouring Republic of the Congo.

“Congo will be willing to take in migrants, and we’re in talks with others,” a senior source in the Israeli security cabinet was quoted as saying.

Earlier, Gila Gamliel, Israel’s intelligence minister, presented a plan for the resettlement of Gaza and said Israel was looking for foreign countries to take
