Paula Vennells CBE: Sunak ‘supports’ decision to strip boss of honour

Rishi Sunak would “strongly support” a decision to revoke the former Post Office boss’s CBE in the wake of the Horizon scandal.

The prime minister’s spokesman said that he “shares the public’s strength of feeling” on the issue, as he put pressure on the Honours Forfeiture Committee, which is part of the Cabinet Office, to act.

Paula Vennells, who led the company between 2010 and 2019, was awarded the honour for “services to the Post Office and charity”.

Postmasters have accused her of covering up the scandal by refusing to properly investigate faults in the Horizon system and dragging hundreds of postmasters into an acrimonious High Court battle that lasted two years and cost £90 million.
