I’d love Taylor Swift to be gay, but that’s not the point

While I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a Swiftie, like many of Taylor Swift’s very dedicated fans I did feel some outrage and disappointment at the publication of an opinion piece in The New York Times this week suggesting that Swift is secretly queer. Outrage that a celebrity would still be publicly “outed” (based on secret clues drip-fed to us, apparently, in her song lyrics) and disappointed that being queer is apparently still seen as a newsworthy subject. Mostly, though, I felt confused that I had just read 4,700 words of evidence-gathering as to Swift’s alleged queerness that included items such as: she once dyed her hair the colour of the bisexual flag.
