Times Sport Unseen: The best guest collections of 2023

As a new year gets under way, our photographers look back at their favourite images from guest contributors to the Unseen gallery over the past 12 months

I am particularly pleased that we have featured both Albert Cooper and Neville Chadwick’s archive images alongside those of Clive Mason, Eddie Keogh and Andrew Reddington in 2023 as they show the way photography has evolved — from being able to photograph George Best playing cricket in a street in 1968 to Jude Bellingham striking a pose underwater in 2022. In many ways, these photos are one and the same, as it is the close relationship a photographer builds over many years with a superstar that allows such timeless photographs to be captured.
