UK and allies issue ‘final warning’ to Houthis over Red Sea attacks

Iranian-backed rebels told they will ‘bear the responsibility of the consequences’ as tensions rise in Middle East

Britain, the United States and ten other countries have told the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen to stop their “profoundly destabilising” attacks in the Red Sea or “bear the responsibility of the consequences” as tensions sharply increased in the region.

The joint statement, which had been days in the planning, was designed to be a “final warning” to the Houthis as the UK and the US prepared military action behind the scenes.

The warning came as nearly 100 people were killed in terrorist bombings in central Iran on Wednesday, in the latest deadly attack to hit the Middle East.
